Mono Monday : : Frog's Eye View*

The photo didn't upload too well for some reason, but I am not going to go out and lie on my back on the ground again because it has started raining once more.

Although it didn't seem that the storm was as bad as the predictions, it was bad enough. As we all ventured out again this morning after two days of pouring rain we discovered trees snapped off, intersections flooded, homes next to the Russian River evacuated and every little creek in SonomaCounty (some of them seasonal) turned into raging torrents.

My friend Tobi, who was stranded at home last Friday because of black ice on her steep driveway, needed her 4 wheel drive today to get through the water which was running over the road instead of in the creek bed under it.

There must be a spring somewhere up by OilMan's shed which runs down the street instead of in the drainage culvert. The giant pothole that opens up at the bottom of our driveway is a testament to the 'deferred maintenance' on roads all over the county.

And speaking of deferred maintenance, the pump on our well stopped working not because of a power outage, but because the filter hadn't been changed since it was installed....ooops. Nobody told us there even was a filter. The same thing happened last summer to our air conditioning. OilMan is now working on a filter spreadsheet....

The birds are turning out to be excellent harbingers of approaching rain. At the first drop they all disappear and the moment it stops the feeders and the surrounding trees are swarming with activity. It has been raining so much they must get pretty hungry. I even saw a woodpecker getting one of his acorns out from under the roof shingles where he stashed it a few months ago....

In other news: Loved Meryl Streep's lovely graceful yet pointed speech last night at the Golden Globes. It's all over You Tube and Facebook and worth watching.

*Thanks to Marlieske for coming up with a title for this week's challenge as well as hosting it.
