Everyone is taking photos

It's hard to know for sure but it seems like about 1 million photos are uploaded to the Internet every minute, and it's still rising rapidly.

I wonder how many of these photos will survive long term, photos used to be an investment in ( for ? ) posterity - a memory for future generations, now they are an of the moment thing - taken, shown once, forgotten and discarded.
