South over the Bay of Creekland
I headed over to Hoy today. As the passenger ferry to Moaness sailed through Burra Sound, visitors were all happy to see about fifty seals pulled out on Middle Skerry, then, quite close by, a minke whale surfaced several times . I didn't get a shot, though.
On the island I could have got the wee bus to Rackwick and walked up to the Old Man of Hoy but there was lots of low cloud so I just walked the coast instead, past The Bu as far as Ber Log. I had coffee there and headed inland to check a couple of conifer plantations for migrant birds, passing a hill called The Witter en route.
