Peebles Burgh Hall.
A cycle run to Peebles today – to another new lunch venue. The web-site for the hall advertises a seating capacity of 250 - so it was big enough for our purposes – and a 4 horse power oven; at least, I assume that’s what H.P. stands for, I can’t think that it could be anything else. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly caretaker who demanded that we take our cycles inside where he sat and guarded them while we spread crumbs all over his nice clean floor. The blue sky belies the fact that we experienced just about every type of weather phenomenon possible in this part of the world and at this time of the year.
There were nine stalwarts at the start, eight of whom actually did start, and we were rewarded with a tail wind for most of the outward journey. After lunch, 2 of our number opted to cycle to Galashiels to catch the train home which was probably the wrong move; they would have been cycling a greater distance with a cross wind than the rest of us did with a tail wind – and we didn’t have to pay for a train fare.
