Pompeii

A haunting experience walking round this huge city which had been destroyed and buried following the eruption of the volcano, particularly the bodies that had been recovered in their various positions of terror as they saw the burning lava hurtling towards them. This figure appears to be in a praying posture and others were laying flat out with hands covering their heads. The remains were covered with plaster to protect them before being moved but the skeletons are fairly intact within.
