Pondering on ponds

One of my projects this year is to map, assess and photograph all the ponds on the nature reserve. This might be a bit difficult given how little rain we have had this winter. Surprisingly nobody seems to know how many there are. Estimates range from 20 to 30. Since we've been chosen as a flagship pond site by the Freshwater Habitats Trust we really need to find out. This morning I worked on one of the smaller of the five commons and found 12 ponds, so I think the total may well exceed 30.
