So after yesterday's washout, today I made the annual pilgrimage to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff for the British Speedway Grand Prix. A great evening of entertainment with 23 races crammed into approximately 3 hours with a spectacular firework display at the very end. It's brilliant!
People from around the world come to be part of the amazing atmosphere, from the U.S.A., Poland, Germany, Russia, Denmark and Australia. On the track we support and cheer the Brits, Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls, the speedway greats like Greg Hancock, Tomaz Gollob and Jason Crump, and also boo the Dick Dastardly of speedway, Nikki Pedersen. The event itself was won by Australian, Chris Holder, his second victory at the Millennium and he is one of the crowd favourites. He was just awesome all night, particularly in the semi-final and final where he had complete domination.
The event was touched with a tinge of sadness this year as one of Britain's stars Lee Richardson, was killed in a speedway race earlier in the year. There were loads of 'Rico' t-shirts being worn around the stadium and it was good to see the speedway world united in its support for celebrating Rico's life.
Just one minor gripe about the event, was the numptie sat next to me who had one of those vuvuzela blow horns. Considering I was sat in the air horn free zone, it would have been nice to see those flipping things banned as well. I hate them at rugby matches as well! So come on Millennium Stadium let's "Scorn the Horn!"
Oh by the way I apologise for the quality of photo it's not the best, in fact most of the ones I took on the night were pretty rubbish. I must try harder! So this is Chris Holder on his way to British Grand Prix success in the final.
