The House in the Clouds
A walk around Thorpeness in Suffolk took us to a view of the House in the Clouds, a former water tower converted into a holiday home in 1977. Thorpeness was a small fishing village until 1910 when it was bought by a Scottish lawyer who developed it as one of the world's first purpose-built holiday villages.
The walk passed through delightful heathland, near thatched cottages and nuclear power stations, along a coastal path and through an odd tunnel. The local pub, The Dolphin, was a pleasant surprise.
In 2003, Bizarre magazine said Thorpeness was the weirdest village in England.
