singing
armed with a big bag of cough sweets, I went to Dumfries Museum this afternoon with some friends from the Cairn Chorus to hear another choir singing. The feral Choir, from castle Douglas, were performing the last of their four winter concerts - "Midwinter Turning" - a round-up of the year 2016 in poetry and song. Themes included "how to get through February, the fragility of life and love, bees and neonicotenoids, space probes....Mr Trump and his obnoxious dream of a wall,, people movement and exile, family and tradition, and home". Whew!
The Museum was a wonderful setting for a concert, too, not only for the visual impact and the acoustics, but somehow being surrounded by objects from the long and distant past (like these nautiloid fossils in the foreground) helps to put present-day problems into perspective...
