Lighting Techniques

I thought to get me through the dead of winter this year I would brush up on my lighting techniques. I therefore asked my wife for a variable LED light for Christmas, hoping to expand this throughout the year. As today was a fifty shades of grey day, totally dull and flat low lighting (unlike the book I am told) I thought I would start out with the bare minimum of lighting - one light shining from the above right of the vase of flowers. The shadows are a bit blurred as I was had holding the light. As expected the effect was rather stark and I have improved the image by bringing in a slightly darkened vignette.

One difficulty I encountered was how creased my backdrops have got so after doing the shoot I went off to do some ironing.
