Battle of Prestonpans Viewing Point
As the first Sunday of the month was the first day of 2017, the Spokes Ride was moved to the 8th January. Sometimes the ride is just the thing to blow festive cobwebs away, however most of us have been at work. Also, being a supposedly festive ride, post ride mince pies are served at my house. So stretching out the festive season for a few more days.
Twelve people on today's Mince Pie Spokes Ride to East Lothian. We cycled out along National Cycle Route 1. Along the way, there is one puncture, so we all stop and wait. Then down Milton Road East and Edinburgh Road to Musselburgh. Then it was out along the coastal road to Prestonpans. Heading to Tranent via the less steep cycle path we pass the monumment and viewing pyramid for the Battle of Prestonpans.
From Tranent, it was south to New Winton before heading west to Elphinstone and Carberry to the Craig House Hotel for lunch. Quite good timing as we make it at the right time I booked for lunch, or the time I thought I had booked. Apparently my booking had not been noted, but th evenue is quite large and they fitted us in.
After lunch, it was back to my place for Mince Pies and coffee, only 1 person opting for tea :-).
