Twisted roots
We successfully followed a way-marked trail - our first - through the forest today, which took us across narrow paths, some completely covered by twisted, slippery roots. Nobody fell, everybody enjoyed and the occasional drizzle was incredibly refreshing. Wednesdays are fast becoming my favourite day due to mornings spent wandering around this vast and beautiful place, and, as a tree-hugger, I thought the sight of so many roots stretching purposefully in all directions, as far as the eye can see, was a powerful reminder of how very small and weak we are in comparison to the huge, proud trees. Take away our chainsaws and we are not so mighty after all. This is their space and I feel so fortunate to be able to pass through it.
