A Grand Day Oot

Bit of a treat at work today as we took three of our clients to Dundee where we had arranged to meet the archivist at D C Thomson for a presentation. DC Thomson are the publishing company who publish The Courier, People's Friend, The Scots Magazine and of course Beano, Dandy, Bunty and Jackie. It was a fascinating talk about the history of the company but the highlight for us all was getting to see the original editions of The Beano and Dandy, editions of The Scots dating back to the 1800's , original artwork of the Broons and Dennis the Menace and (my personal favourite) old copies of Jackie - who remembers the joy of the problem page?! It was definitely a case of look but don't touch and unfortunately I wasn't allowed to photograph any of the old papers for social media purposes. Denis here greeted us in the reception.
