Winter Bus Challenge No 117!!

Kissing Gate Cottage, Marshfield, South Gloucestershire

"Marshfield is the southern most Cotswold village in South Gloucestershire, approximately 9 miles from Bristol, Bath and Chippenham.  It is a typical Cotswold village with a long main street of 186 fine architectural buildings with a smiliar number of later buildings extending in both directions behind the High Street.  The Church dominates the skyline and a church has been on this site for around 1000 years." www.achurchnearyou.com

Even though Marshfield lies only 9 miles to the north of Bath, to get there by bus this morning, I had to take a bus to the eastern suburbs of Bristol, then a second bus up to the Cotswold hills above Bath. I left home under frosty blue skies, but when I arrived in Marshfield the sun was battling its way through fog...

After an atmospheric wander around the historic conservation village, with so many interesting listed buildings to look at, we had lunch in front of another roaring log fire in a lovely 17th century pub, The Catherine Wheel.

If the village looks familiar to you, it may be because it's been used as a filming location for several period dramas, including the BBC's Wives and Daughters. You may also have heard of the local Marshfield Ice cream which is now sold all over the country! Just look out for the black and white cow!!
