I have just finished reading "The Shepherd's Life: A tale of the Lake District".  It is the first book I have read that was written by an ex-pupil .  Somebody I have actually taught, but not a lot!

By his own admission he wasted time and was disruptive at school being one of those farmer's sons who wanted nothing more than to get out of school and farm.  He left school with no examination passes.

Since leaving school he has gained an Oxford degree, become one of the top Herdwick breeders and works part time for UNESCO.

If only he had realised his abilities while he was at school!
