With One Eye Wide Open

The Paragon St, Bath

'They arrived in Bath. ?Catherine was all eager delight; - her eyes were here, there, everywhere, as they approached its ?fine and striking environs and afterwards drove through those streets which conducted them to the hotel. ?She was come to be happy and she was happy already.'

- from the book Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

Drove to Bath the night before and we were lucky to get the last two beds in the Youth Hostel. ?We walked around the beautiful town in search of Mr. Darcy and ended up at No. 40 Gay St. to discover a little bit more about our dear Jane Austen. Niamh is a huge fan and I like her myself although i've never read any of her books but have watched some of the films made based on her novels. ?We of course couldn't resist having tea at the Regency Tea Room and quite enjoyed it. ?Alas we had to missed out on visiting the Roman Baths as we used up most of our afternoon trying to find accommodations. ?All of the hostels and inns we called were fully booked and that included the YHA in the entire Southwest England! ?Bloody bank holiday! ?Why did I not know it was a bank holiday weekend?! ?We ended up having to drive all the way to Llandeilo in Wales to stay with Niamh's cousin. ?Free accommodation yes but it took me 2 1/2 hours to get there from Bath and twice I ended up in the wrong lane due to exhaustion! ?Tsk tsk. ?So I was back in Wales but only for the night. ? How I wish I could just drive back up to Snowdonia but I had a date with the Stonehenge. ?Oh well.....
