Another for my door series. Taken in Lanjarón today. We were surprised at how deserted the town was; almost all the shops and bars were closed. At first we surmised that it was because it was the saint's day of San Sebastian, the town's patron saint, but the lady in the ham shop said no, it was just that everyone had gone on holiday. We had a little wander round the old town (see extra) but there was nothing to retain us, so having bought our ham we left.

From there we went on to Orgiva. I did a couple of yoga retreats near here ten years ago and was surprised at how little I remembered of it. However, as well as the bar where the waiter had studiously ignored me because I was a woman on my own, I did recognise a restaurant where the yoga group had had a nice meal, so we had a menu del día there. A bit more expensive than most (12.50), but also more refined.

Onwards and upwards (literally) to Pampaneira, a village far up a winding mountain road that specialises in rug-making. It's very touristy, and even at this time of year it was busy with walkers. We resisted the rugs, had a coffee, and bought 5kg of oranges for 2 euros from a roadside stall (well, actually the bonnet of a van) on the way down.
