Long day today left the house at 6am to pick up colleagues in Grantham for a site visit to Kent and Canterbury Urgent and Emergency Care Unit. Was a long drive but a great visit and lots to learn and adapt for local use, I was with a GP, nurse and Consultant so quite useful when the doctor rang late afternoon to update on Grandma.
Luckily liver scan was clear but chest X-rays show she has lung issues that can't be treated and is very breathless iwhich is worse on moving and frail. They are trying to mobilise her with physio but she is very wobbly so he said a care placement is next and consider a palliative plan if she doesn't respond to trying to mobilise and remains very breathless as bringing her to hospital may not help her due to LBD . She also had vision problem which I knew as steve rang after his visit today and she couldn't see him :( having said all that she was better in herself and starting to eat small amounts.
He was very apologetic about not calling he claims he has had no request to call me. He had also assessed her as not having capacity today so asked if LPA for health and welfare in place which it is. I'm so glad we did that when we did as would if been more traumatic than need be. I think everyone should do one.
