Sunset On Pigeon House Road
Photographically, this has been my stamping ground for around six years now. It comprises the Dublin docks and most of The Poolbeg Peninsula, that landfill stretch where heavy industry meets (and over-arches in the above photo) those overgrown zones, gone-to-seed waste ground and the old badlands of Irishtown, which is now a nature trail.
Pigeon House Road is, presumably, named after The original Pigeon House Hotel, later a barracks then, in the early 20th Century, the name became synonymous with the Poolbeg Power Station, with those tall, landmark, red and white chimneys, now due for demolition. The road runs straight along by the south docks and the power station then crosses to continue on the Sandymount/Irishtown side of the peninsula, all the way to The Great South Wall.
