normal scrutinosity

"I do wish you would cease flinching when I'm speaking at you." Frank tweaked the power setting on his corrugator a little higher, increasing his facial sternness to 80%. "It's unprofessional and rather distressing for me to witness."

Herbert rubbed successively at his most recent stings in turn until he ran out of limbs. "As I've repeatedly stated many times over the past year, it's a common involuntary reaction. For normal humans." A little emphasis on his penultimate word wafted unnoticed from the exterior relay sounders.
His interview with Frank was being conducted from within a small glass box, shared with a multitude of stinging Hymenopterids, in which he had been compelled to dwell for eight months. Several cameras recorded him, should Frank wish to observe without being physically present.

Frank proceeded to the succeeding operation. "In reviewing your activities recently, it becomes noticeable that your output temporarily ceased several times last Friday. I would create a brief conversational gap here for a response."

Herbert plucked insects from his nostrils in order to take a breath before replying. "I did wonder if that would be noticed. I had, as is doubtlessy recorded in the cell's systems, succumbed to anaphylaxis from repeated exposure to the hornets introduced last month at your request. I informed the appropriate authorities of this upon my recovery."

Frank sniffed, or gave the impression of so doing. "Upon your recovery? This is of little use. By then a delay has been created, with impactful repercussions across several sectors." His voice was clipped and unforgiving. "The nature of delays must be communicated clearly and promptly prior to their realisation, then steps taken to prevent their actual occurrence."

His captive bristled lightly. "I was somewhat incapacitated, until able to breathe naturally again. Would the work-recipients not have noted the medical alarm issuing from this facility, into the circuits of which their workstreams delve?" Herbert accidentally shook his head ever so slightly.

Frank immediately activated his most indignant disposition. "You will not express physical suggestions of disobedience! The administrative ranks are not deserving of your gestural mockery." He pressed a control to slightly increase the cell's fauna's ferocity. "It is not for our recipients to note occurrences, nor to draw conclusions from any occurrences whose occurrence they have noted for them." He turned a leaf of his notesheaf and peered briefly thereat. "Also, you are still exhibiting a degree of untidiness which has been noted in multiple instances by reliable witnesses of importance. Their accounts exhibit corroboration with my own opinion, thereby confirming its truth, were such confirmation not superfluous and insulting to even consider subject to doubt." He studied his notes again. "We all determine that you have far too many ants crawling over you to be considered an asset to our ultimate purpose."

Herbert raised an eyebrow, dislodging a couple of the less firmly-attached ants. Several others reamined in place, gently injecting formic acid into his supra-orbital ridge.

"Oh, and you're free to go." Almost as an afterthought, Frank turned the key switch which would instruct the employee-reclamation systems to gradually recapture the insects before venting the re-education cell and releasing Herbert. He exhibited a brief indication of puzzlement as his former captive emitted a shuddering sob of relief. "Though upon a recurrence of your traits we will immediately progress beyond insect-enforced compliance to the installation of an explosive collar."
