The photo doesn’t do this wooden bowl justice.  It is made from a silver birch burr and shows the deformed grain caused by a rounded growth on the tree trunk that has been filled with small knots from dormant buds.  It is highly valued by wood sculptors and furniture makers although it is not easy to work.
