Wot, no Waxwings!

After JeanneB53's capture of waxwings on the moor yesterday, I headed up there this afternoon with the big lens in the hope of seeing them.  Sadly, however, waxwings don't naturally hang about.  They are visitors passing through so my search was fruitless.  Indeed, there were no bird sightings above a distant seagull and some roosting crows at Ryecroft.  Most birds with any sense will be hanging out around the feeders on our street!

So what do you do with a very big lens on top of the moor?  I had rambled over to the old quarry area  so I clambered up a heap and took this view looking down the Aire Valley.  So, what is to be seen?  Just behind the heap of stone are the greenhouses of one of the village garden centres, home to the Potting Shed Cafe, oft frequented by blippers.  The road you can see leads out of the village (out of sight beneath the moor edge), past Bingley St Ives estate to the left and down into the town of Bingley.  Beckfoot School, on the edge of Bingley, can be seen just off centre.  To the right of the school is the Bingley bypass road and behind that the chimneys and towers of World Heritage Site, Saltaire.  Great to have a clear day to see the view!
