the boys in the band

We meet for a rehearsal this morning.  Just three of us - the other two couldn't make it.  We haven’t played together since last summer in Germany.  And we have a gig on Friday.  No pressure then.

In the mid-1970s these two had a band which seemed to be going somewhere.  They were signed to a record label owned by Pete Townsend (The Who).  Locked in a recording studio for months at a time, the other members of the band fell out and quit.

Phil and Neil tried to finish the album, but to no avail and they reluctantly called it a day.  The need to earn a living meant going their separate ways and they eventually lost touch.

Then a few years ago they met again quite by accident.  The musical magic that had brought them together in the first place still worked and they decided to have another crack at recording an album.  This is it, fresh off the press.

Phil is a wonderful song writer - he should be famous, or at the very least, living off royalties by now.  And Neil is a masterful guitar and mandolin player.  He too could have earned a living doing what he now just does for fun.

But they’re both extremely modest and generous with their talent.  They have no egos to satisfy, nothing to prove.  They just love to share what they do with the rest of us.
