Agamemnon
My oldest turkey-boy waits patiently at the top of the stairs for his breakfast. It's only 9F and he's fluffed his feathers to keep warm. He's balanced on one leg while warming the other next to his body. Why don't their legs freeze...after all they're quite naked. They are mostly bone, sinew and scales with very few nerves. A system of tiny arteries with warm blood interweave with tiny veins carrying cold blood. The blood is then warmed before it reaches the heart. This is called rete mirabile. Also there are no sweat glands in birds' legs or feet so they stay very dry. However, Mr. Agamemnon likes to tuck his bald head under a wing every now and again to warm his pate. Maybe MadChickenWoman could knit him a tiny hat?
