Chasing a bit of culture

Today we looked at all the museums on the map and thought we should give them a go.
First the photography museum. It was closed. Really closed as in closed down. Disappointing.
A quick look round a church across the road.
Second the Natural History museum. Two got in on seniors prices for €3.70 in total. Worth it to see the building more than the rather flea bitten exhibits but it was fun.
A coffee and a sit in the park with our books and then the Military Museum. Tiny. €3.50 for two. But I thought it was excellent. Only two rooms in one of the old forts but again the building was excellent and I learned an interesting snippet that for a short time in the 1930s the island stood up against the Salazar dictatorship. Feisty these Madeirans.
Then a cocktail down by the harbour and an early dinner in the museum cafe. That's the museum of sacred art which we looked around on Wednesday.
All within a few blocks of our hotel.
About to go out shortly to see if we can get into a free Fado concert at the University of Madeira across the street.
Another lovely day.
And this is of the back of the cathedral.
