Old coal mine....

Where the rain never falls, where the sun never shines, it's dark as a dungeon way down in the mine....

Today I took a 5 mile walk in the forest. Around here that could easily mean around some old coal mines. This was one of them. The sign on the right was a warning of poisonous gases that are still emitted occasionally..

In the extra you have one of many birds I saw, some leaves hanging on, one of several streams, a sign dedicate to the Ford Slope Mine, and one of many happy doggies on the trails..

The Ford Slope Mine produced the largest amount of coal within the Newcastle mines. It operated between 1905 and 1926, with its production peak in 1917. Miners hoisted 600 tons of coal a day from the mine in 1912. In 1917, the Ford Slope produced 300,000 tons.. History found here...
