Chinese Burns supper
This evening we combined two celebrations into one at my parents' house in Northumberland with a Chinese Burns supper. The menu was as follows:
Chicken noodle soup
Haggis, neeps and tatties (served in ramekins, and piped in by my mother on the Northumbrian pipes) - blipped
Crispy duck with pancakes, noodles and prawn crackers
Banana pieces in batter
Our guest of honour was the Russian Party Princess K. We toasted her recent academic success (MSc with distinction) and her new job. These have both been achieved after two years of full-time study while also looking after two children almost single-handedly and supervising academic work of masters students (in the domain of her PhD and former career as an academic) for another University.
Earlier in the day I watched the wonderful To walk invisible on the iPlayer in the car while Mr hazelh drove us south, and The Yorkshire vet with my mother on arrival at the parental abode. Daddy hazelh joined us for the end of the latter so we forced him to play 'guess the diagnosis' for a couple of cases. We also introduced him to The thick of it, which he enjoyed.
Exercise today: none.
