Looking out from the shore a distance from Rosemarkie, over the Moray Firth to the former McDermott's yard at Ardersier, with its huge shed*... and much smaller one too. Oil rigs used to be constructed over there, in years past.
Windy day, with white horses from the breaking waves on the shallow sandbar known as the Riff Bank, out in the firth. Walked along the shore from Rosemarkie, turned inland towards Hillockhead, and then back down the road to the Fairy Glen pathways back to the shore again. A favourite loop walk with a great mixture of scenic views.
Extras:
- first Primrose of the year by the steps and path up from shore - a sheltered South facing bank.
- friendly ponies that will always rush over to greet anyone that pauses for the slightest moment by their field - there might be a treat on offer. Note the flurry of blurred snow flakes moving horizontally across the scene.
- very early Frog spawn.
* - That huge shed would be dismantled years after taking this; shipped off to the Far East somewhere; and reassembled.
