Whittington Castle motte
This is the motte or mound at Whittington Castle. It was thought to have a wooden bailey before the stone structure was built but is now thought to be a viewing platform for admiring the Medieval garden that was discovered a few years ago. A reproduction of how the platform might have been was built on the top a few years ago together with steps for access.
It is reflected in the castle pool which was part of it's defensive moat.
