Waxwings enjoy the sun!

Hard frost overnight and the  temperature during the day only
rose to 5 . However, a cloudless blue sky and sun was very tempting, so decided to go up the 300 year old Wade road to see the hut circles and old settlements. The ground was icy underfoot and above 1000' there was a bright white snow covering. Was blinded by the low sun as I walked due south and saw a tree with some black dots in it, birds of some sort. As I drew level i heard them, a lovely soft high pitched trill. Started creeping round in an attempt to get round them without them flying off. They were strangely obliging though and took off and landed several times but stayed in the same area. Watched them eating the Juniper berries; it was about 1200' and covered in Juniper scrub. Tomatin is derived from  the Gaelic, Hill of Juniper.
