Guessing Game
I had my MRI this afternoon. It was a pretty quick turnaround time, only had to wait a week. It's in a little cabin around the back of the hospital, so easy to get to.
I had one on my knee when I was 11, so I wasn't worried in the slightest. Last year I had one for my thyroid, where a sort of metal square comes down and rests about 2cm above your face, which wasn't great, but certainly bearable. I think I had a doze ;-)
My shoulders are so painful; both of them. I was trying to work it out, but it's been a whole week since my last gym session, and rest has made no difference. My x-rays were ok, so the only way to find out the damage is the MRI, so then I can fix whatever it is, and get back to proper gym.
When it came time to have it done, they talked you through what will happen. They explained it would take longer as they have to do each shoulder separately, and you have to lie with each arm underneath some plastic guard. Plus you are sort of wedged in with foam cushions, and your hands weighted down with bean bag things. That, and ear plugs and then headphones left me feeling a little like they were over-reacting.... Is it really that noisy?
And then they popped the little call bell in my hand and started to slide me into the tunnel.... At which point it began to dawn on me that I don't really like confined spaces.... I asked them to stop and the took me out. I sat up, and then sucked it up. This is the only way to know the damage!
It was horrible, even with the radio as a distraction, but I calmed myself and I managed to get them both done. I closed my eyes and tried to nap. I think I was a bit freaked out, as it's not a large tunnel, and really only a few inches from your face, which makes you feel like you're in a grave, or underground. The noise didn't bother me at all.
* The man that went before me muttered what I thought was "that was horrible" when he passed me on his way out. I understood why when I finished!
