Ardrishaig

This is the village where I live. It dates back to the 1800's and the pier was built around 1873. In the photo the pier, the church and the gable end bottom right are all about the same age , the church maybe a tad younger. The village prior to 1970 had over 30 shops! I find that hard to imagine given that today there's only about 6!! , it was the Council in their wisdom that chose to knock down all the houses on the sea side to create 2 car parks and the locals have never forgiven them for it. John Smith from the Labour party was brought up here, in fact my cousin lived in the old school house that was Smith's family home. Finally the TV series A Mug's Game was filmed here in 1996 and our house featured in it. This is also where the Crinan Canal begins or ends depending on which way your' going!
