Today in Portland, Oregon
Every day, in Portland, Oregon, thousands of people are leaving their homes, workplaces, and schools to meet in public to support values they hold dear: justice for all people, freedom of religion, compassion for refugees, and respect for those who are vulnerable to the power structure because of their race, religion, mental or physical health, gender, sexual orientation, or immigration status. Today a couple of thousand people met in a public park at the lunch hour to say they support Muslims and Muslim Americans, and that they want our city to be a safe harbor, a sanctuary for immigrants and refugees.
Thank you for the incredible outpouring of support, kindness, and generosity for my last post. I am deeply grateful.
