Holdfast

10.0C with a very wet rainy morning with SSE/SE wind to 28 mph and gusts to 37 mph. Late in the morning it cleared to become a bright afternoon with sunny spells later and a light WSW/SW/WNW breeze.

Apothecary7's day off.

With the rain clearing before lunchtime quite dramatically we decided to go to Glenbarr for lunch then on the way home to stop at Westport beach and have a walk with Maeve the Deerhound. On the way up to Glenbarr we saw a number of surfers in the water just North of Westport. At the start of the walk we met three people and three dogs and saw one surfer in the water after which we had the whole beach to ourselves.

We walked a good way along towards Machrihanish but turned at the third burn that crosses the beach as it was just to deep and fast running to cross easily. We could see Gigha easily and Islay was just becoming visible as the clouds cleared Northwards, but we couldn't make out Jura from the beach today although we had a fleeting glimpse of the mountains from nearer Glenbarr. All the time we were walking the clouds were clearing and thinning and the sun came through and lit up the sand and the sea. There were lovely bright waves with pure white foamy breaking tops which were illuminated in shades of blue green. We had to move quickly up the beach away from the waves a few times as they came rushing up the slope towards us. Maeve ran and skipped with us most of the time but sometimes she just lets the waves catch her and gets her paws wet. Not paddling weather yet.

Later Apothecary7 was painting.

Afternoon music ... Runrig, Mara then The Big Wheel.
