Once a swamp
Once a swamp, life in this area must have been severe in olden times. Mosquitos in summer, frozen solid in winter. The church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker has witnessed winters come and go since about 1390.
January this year has been a month of complete winter (moreso than I can remember for some years) and has offered up a lot of interesting photographic opportunities. More to come, I'm sure. In Moscow winter ain't over until it's over which usually means April.
