A curious X

Someone, a builder or plumber, painted this X on the pavement last year and it is amazing how many times I have walked past and found an interesting object bang on the very centre, where "X marks the spot."
I wonder. Is there another observer out there watching this focal point, who enjoys carefully placing objects on it?
