The chapel of St Bride
The ruins of the original parish church of Kildrummy, erected in 1385, occupy the top of a grassy mound which may be of glacial origin or may possibly be the motte of a Norman castle. The church was dedicated to St Bride but was once called the 'chapel of the lochs' because of the encircling marshy wetlands. All that now remains of St. Bride's Chapel is the North wall, containing a Medieval grave recess, and the south porch which was added in 1605 to serve as a burial aisle for the Elphinstone Lairds of Kildrummy.
Anyone visiting this place today will immediately be aware of the strange atmosphere and strong presence of the past. This is a place of mystery, intrigue and secrets.
