Fly away
One of the herons on the lake. I am amazed at the wingspan as he flies - I took an earlier photo where he is standing at the lakeside, looking slender and fragile - and suddenly unfolds a huge amount of wing...
I had a lovely chat with a lady this morning as I walked around the lake, stopped to take this photo. She sits on the bench and watches the wildlife in the early morning. We have both seen the heron (I've seen both of them), the robin and the wren, but she's seen the kingfishers that are nesting at the edge of the lake. I see some early mornings coming up for me, as I'd love to see them.
"The Guide says there is an art to flying", said Ford, "or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
