The Wallace Monument

The other lesser known monument to Scottish independence hero William Wallace marks the spot where he was captured by English soldiers after being betrayed byJohn de Menteith, a Scottish knight loyal to the English king.

The granite monument was funded by public subscription and unveiled in 1900 in front of a crowd of 1000 onlookers. It's not as easy to spot in it's quiet corner of Robroyston on the outskirts of Glasgow as it's larger, better known companion in Stirling but certainly worth a stop if you are nearby.
