KINGFISHER (Halcyon sancta)

Also named Kotare, or New Zealand Kingfisher - found throughout New Zealand. Feeds on insects, crabs, small fish and much to Mrs Poo's chargrine goldfish from the garden pond. Ithink they are my favourite estuary bird. This one has a crab which it whacks into shape getting the legs off. The extra is a shot after it had consumed its crab.
(Incidentally I think this bird is having an early moult - its front feathers are noticably a bit rough!
