Conversation in the local Information Centre.

Two German girl-tourists.    "The road to Picton is closed?"
Lady behind counter            "That's right!"
Two ggt's                                "Will it be open later today?"
Lady bc                                   "Maybe twelve months from today"!

Extras:    1.    If only we had a Civil Engineer!    The main train line south has had a bit of a squiggle!    In other places the line has disappeared all together.

                2.    The death of barnacles.    This was the seabed before the earthquake of November 14th.    Raised out of the water, the barnacles are dying, and the white stuff is their corpses.

               3.     Kaikora Bay.    On the seventh day the whales returned - and there was great hope and rejoicing.
