Southam Holy Well

Located along a footpath not far from the church is this surprising site. The main point of interest are the stone faces where the water pours, these have been described by some people as sun gods. The waters were said to be medicinal and bathing was said to cure eye diseases and sores. It is said the waters never freeze.
This ancient monument and grade 2 listed was said to have been used by monks and it was first recorded in 998 and reported to been the oldest well in England. In 1761 it was enclosed in oak posts with only free access to the people of Southam
