Driftwood

On holiday, before mum was up
We'd walk the beach, dad and I,
Scouring it for interesting flotsam
And jetsam: words he taught me.
Wood, plastic, feathers, twine...
Anything we took a fancy to. Then
We'd see what we could make of them.
We starting bringing nails and hammer
As well as spade and bucket and
One year I made this boat. I love it still
And it reminds me of the fun we had.
Thanks, dad.
