Pottery Wednesday

This was taken inside the snake kiln at Tian Xian Kiln just outside the town of Jiji. We had a fantastic time. We tried our hand at some pottery. It's fair to say our attempts at hand building were not great but we created some nice pieces on the potters wheel. We were then given an excellent tour of the premises by Minerva, whose great grandmother had started the business in 1955. She took us inside the snake kiln which is at least 15m long, it's the length and shape that give the kiln it's name. It's the oldest kiln in Taiwan still in production. They've built the museum and shop around her grandmother's original house. We had a lovely chat with Minerva over some coffee and tea before purchasing some beautiful original pieces to take home.
All in all a fantastic experience.
