Orta Street
Backblipped for 29th June
Taking the cross-country (twisty, hilly, pretty) roads we went over to Lake Orta. Visitors cannot drive into the village of Orta but park at the top of the hill and walk down any of the flights of steps, so typical of the lakeside villages.
We then drove round the perimeter of the lake returning home via Il Mottarone. Although 1491m high is it possible to drive most of the way up, there is a ski school served by a cablecar/ chairlift from Stresa. There is also an Alpine Rollercoaster which looked to be great fun but it was closing for the evening. We walked up to the summit but, despite the rain the day before, the views were still quite hazy.
Slight panic later as it appeared that over 500 photos had disappeared from my memory card though they had been downloaded. Mr Flum was able to restore them as insurance against the laptop crashing.
Discovered an excellent trattoria in Stresa, welcoming, efficient with delicious Prosecco. Will certainly go again.
