A Precocious Young Girl
An earliest image of Patricia Granville Colling. A formal portrait of her family, centred on Richard Granville.
Mom was fiercely proud of her heritage and the Granville family name was used in her middle forename. Her Cornish background meant lots of holidays in that county, visiting relatives.
Mom was born on the 27th August 1923 and I've chosen her 4th birthday as a suitable date to share this image. She was an only child of Henry ‘Harry’ and Elizabeth Wright. There was early trauma in her life when her mother died within 2 years of her birth. As Mom told it, her mother’s sisters were appalled by the state she was living in with her father and demanded that she was given over to the family in Cornwall to bring up. This happened, but her father had nothing to do with her from that moment on.
