Spectra

Spectra is a festival of light held in Aberdeen in February each year since 2014. It opens tonight at 6:30 pm. I was in the city this morning for another meeting so I took a walk around to see what was on display.

In Union Terrace gardens it was still being set up, there were a number of people still setting up the displays. I have shown the Union Street Gardens set up in the two extras. The cloud seems rather unnecessary in Aberdeen, we have plenty of clouds of our own. Today was a case in point, it was again very overcast. Perhaps that is why the cloud seems to have been chosen as the emblem of the festival.

In St. Nicholas Kirk churchyard there were these illuminated spiders. These were also being set up, but many of them were turned on and the day was dark enough to show what the effect. There was also "spooky" music on the loudspeakers in the churchyard.

In my Blip for the day I have darkened the photograph substantially to give an idea of what the spiders may look like after dark as they crawl over the graves.

Apparently several buildings around the city will be floodlit as part of the festival. It opens today and continues until February 12th.
