A Day Out

With the monsters off school today we thought we would take them into the museum.
We used the tram which always gets them excited - as if they needed that!
They nearly ended up in their beds after breakfast they were so belligerent.

I didn't get the chance to go and take my usual weird stuff -- the monsters were too hyper playing with balloons and racing cars.
The old ones filled with character held no interest for them.

There is an exhibition on at the moment entitled 'Monkey Business' which the kids loved. I took some pictures of the exhibits. I love the expression on this one .... the taxidermist certainly had a sense of humour.

Goose Pie House was looking quite good (the castle was a bit too well hidden) as we were about to get back on the tram to head home.

When it comes to The Goose Pie I always find it slightly amusing that the wig maker's statue shows him in his finery ..... and his nightcap.

For those who are now totally confused ........... The Goose Pie house was built by the poet (and wig maker) Allan Ramsay around 1740. His statue which stands below the house on Princes Street was modeled on a head and shoulders portrait which was done when he was ready for bed.
