Fondation Louis Vuitton II
Our second visit to the incredible Frank Gehry building for the Louis Vuitton Foundation, established as an art museum in Paris's Bois de Boulogne. Interestingly the huge structure was colorless on our first visit (almost exactly two years ago). We did not go inside then, but we did this time (in the very late afternoon, for an exhibition of the Shchukin Collection--mainly impressionist and post-impressionist art (usually housed in Russia), very high quality, and a real treat. Best for me were Monet, Matisse, and Gauguin--a room of the latter's paintings was the best assortment I'd ever seen.
The building is the most complex contemporary structure I've experienced; the extra image, from the exterior on the top level gives a fragmentary impression of it. The distant buildings are in La Défense, a modern business district to the west of Paris.
