For the second time, I walked back from the supermarket rather than going in the car. OK, so it leaves Mr A having to manhandle the shopping up to the flat on his own, but that would only be a real problem if the lift were not working. Luckily that doesn't happen too often these days. Touch wood.

However, there have been domestic problems in the development today. We were supposed to have a new pump fitted to our water supply last week, although in the end the anticipated daytime disruption of supply didn't happen as the work was done overnight. But it's left a problem (perhaps because it was done in a hasty way overnight), because apparently the water supply is draining too quickly, and air is getting into the system because of a faulty valve. That means that in many parts of the development flats have been getting no water at all. Basically, because we had emergency plumbers here most of the afternoon, we also had no water most of the afternoon. It seems temporarily fixed - or it will be until lots of people start having showers and baths tomorrow morning. Apparently the new valve won't be fitted before next week, and meanwhile we will get emergency plumbers if the system seizes up.

We spent a good part of the rest of the day discussing the outlines of how the next four years might shape up. This might seem a ridiculously long planning horizon, but it makes sense as I'm soon going to be in a phase at work where I'm going to be focusing on a big research project for several years. And this is going to involve a fair amount of travelling which we need to fit around other activities (e.g. getting the other knee fixed). In the end we decided that a couple of cloud tools were going to help us with this - a new shared calendar entitled the "meta planning calendar" and a set of online shared notes. We spent a merry afternoon filling these out with ideas, and brainstorming some things that we really both want to do in the next few years.
